Copywriting for the Web

This project was a redesign of a pre-existing site. We did a complete content overhaul and structured the new information in a way that was more usable for potential customers and gave the site a fresh look-and-feel.

Content Outline

The content outline was created for client approval before the final content was written to ensure that the basic goals of the project were being achieved and to allow for final details to be worked out before production began. This outline contained page names that aligned with the information architecture, initial page title data that was optimized for search engines, and a brief description of what content would appear on each page.

Keywords

For the next iteration of the outline, I added keywords and phrases for each page of the site that would eventually be worked into the page titles, meta descriptions, and body copy text.

Headlines & Paragraphs

I wrote headlines and paragraphs into the content outline next. The goal was to write direct, to the point paragraphs and to break up larger paragraphs with meaningful headlines that allow users to skim the page to find the exact content they are looking for,

List Items & Sentences

Once I had my paragraphs written, I reviewed the content and pulled out sentences that included comma-delimited lists and transformed those parts of the sentences into bulleted list items. I left the portion of the sentence that contained the main point in sentence form as an introduction to the list. This kept my sentences short and sweet while the lists helped deliver important points to readers in away that was easily digestible.
